Alroy E. DeAngelis
Alroy E. DeAngelis, 56, of Portland,Oregon, formerly of Altoona and Southeast Alaska, died March 21, 2011, after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Surviving are his wife, Patti; children, Laughton and Sarah; his mother, Margaret; two brothers: Mike and Paul; two nieces: Tara and Catlin, and sister-in-law, Cindy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward; and a son, Ellery.
Alroy was a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam Era, and his team worked on the Apollo-Soyuz mission. He worked for the US Forest Service for 24 years and was a craftsman woodworker.
Alroy was well known for his adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. Throughout his life, he was a strong advocate for wilderness preservation and public access to trails in the Inyo and Tongass National Forests. His life passions were his family, his friends and Alaska.
