RICHMOND, Ind. -- Donald Louis Schwab of Richmond passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, March 31, 2011.

Donald was the son of Elmer and Velma Helms Schwab. Don proudly served his country for 33 years. He was a Marine for three years and completed his Naval career assigned to Seal Team Three in Coronado, Calif. His service-related accomplishments were many. He was especially honored to have been chosen to serve on the Apollo 8 Recovery Team in 1967. As Zone Supervisor for the Northern Ohio Recruiting Territory, a high recruitment rate was maintained for three consecutive years.

Don enjoyed darts, horseshoes, boxing and basketball, especially Butler, Indiana, Notre Dame and Purdue.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Donna Jean; his daughters, Terri, Tracy, Tina and Tammy; son, Tom; son-in-law, Steve Harlan; grandsons, Robert and Kaleb Harlan, Aaron and Kevin Brunn, John Schwab, Manuel and Brandon Schwab and Elliot Andrews; granddaughter, Keri Brunn; great-granddaughters, Ruby Mae Abrams and Aspen Moon Harlan; great-grandsons, Jaden and John Schwab; his brother, George (Verna); sisters, Roberta McClain and Dorothy (Don) Hildebrand; nieces and nephews.

The following words from a longtime friend and fellow teammate sums up Don's life: There are many of us who are fortunate and blessed to have called Don a good friend and teammate. As you know he was completely dedicated to his family and his country. He never did anything half way. He put all his being and strength into everything he attempted and that was one reason why he was so successful in life. He leaves countless friends and admirers that respected him and thought the world of him. HOOYAH!!

Service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond, is in charge of arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to the family via the guest book at www.doanmillsfuneralhome.com.
