CAPT Stephen G. Young, USNR (Ret.)
It is with great sadness that the UDT-SEAL Association informs its membership about the passing of Captain Stephen G. Young, USNR (Ret.). He died June 15, 2010 at the age of 74 after a brief Illness.
Captain Young was a graduate of Class 21E and served his active-duty time with UDT-21. He remained in the reserve component and served at every level of responsibility in the UDT-SEAL community for 30 years as Naval Special Warfare Officer, including command. Captain Young was a Lifetime Member of the UDT-SEAL Association and enjoyed attending the annual Reunion.
Steve was a 1958 graduate of Duke University, and earned his law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1964. For 33 years he served as head of government affairs for CONSOL Energy, Inc., and was a past President of the West Virginia Coal Association. He was elected to the West Virginia Coal Hall of Fame in 2005 and in 2006 CONSOL Energy, Inc. named a river towboat, the "MV Steve Young," in his honor.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife, the former Maureen Dailey; his children, Michael, Jane, Stephen, Alice, Patrick, Mara and Maggie; and grandchildren Jennifer, Danielle, Michael, Elena, Lillian and Lucas; and a sister, Nancy Tussing.
