ENS Jerry O. Pope II.

We regret to inform you that another Teammate has been lost in the line of duty ? Jerry "Buck" Pope. "Buck" lost his life on 16 October 2002 in a vehicle accident during a training exercise in Yemen. He graduated in Class 165 (3/90) as a FC3 and reported to SEAL Team FOUR. In 1997, "Buck" decided to become a Physicians Assistant which led to a commission. "Buck" was assigned to the Intelligence department, American Embassy, Yemen at the time of his death.

Two memorial services have been held in "Buck's" honor. On 21 October a service was held in the NAB Little Creek Chapel, and on 30 October a service was conducted in MCB Quantico Chapel.

The funeral is scheduled for 1500, 21 November 2002 at Arlington National Cemetery. Please meet at the administrative building at 1430, everyone will walk to the gravesite for the service. Uniform for Navy personnel is Service Dress Blue. Teammates and friends are invited and encouraged to honor a fallen Teammate.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Jerry O. Pope II Memorial Fund (2692362-003), Navy Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 3100, Merrifield, VA 22119-3100. The fund will help pay for the education of his three children - Drew (11 yrs), Leah (8 yrs), and Jack (20 months).
